Trailer air valve

One element that is important to understand when it comes to safe driving of a trailer is the trailer air valve. While these VIT air brake valve may be small in stature, they have a large impact on proper braking of your trailer. In this article, we will explain the importance of trailer air valves, know of their types and the possible problems that may occur. We will also take a look at a few new technologies that help improve the performance of trailer air valves beyond what they have been.

As a trailer has a unique stopping method when required. They consist of two principal components: the brake chamber and the air valve. It converts air pressure to mechanical force in the braking chamber. It's this force that pushes the brake shoes against the drums, bringing the trailer to a stop. But the air does not go directly from the truck into the braking chamber. However, it is the air valve that regulates the flow of air from the truck into the braking chamber. A malfunctioning or damaged valve causes complete brake failure. That makes it nearly impossible to safely bring the trailer to halt. This is why having a properly operating trailer air valve is imperative.

The Pros and Cons of Different Types of Trailer Air Valves

The Load Sensing Valve is a variable valve that automatic adjusts the pressure of the brakes to how heavy the trailer is. The reason why VIT brake air valve matters is that it ensures that the brakes are not too strongly engaged when it does not need to be. Excessive wear and tear on the brake shoes ago can be a problem down the road if the brakes are over-adjusted.

Hybrid Trailer Air Valve (a Specialty Valve developed by VIT). This valve use both features of Load Sensing Valve and Quick Release Valve. It has a pressure release feature that reduces wear and also considers the weight of the trailer. In this way, the brakes are never applied so strongly so that the whole work gets stuck.
